As we look at the runways and look at our wallets something may not add up…(pun intended) although we may dream about cuddling up with Chanel’s Lego bag unfortunately for most that may just stay a dream. So in my journey as a fashionista on a budget I’ve found some versatile spring essentials that can take you from day to night and not into bankruptcy.
We’ve all heard of the legendary “little black dress” and let me tell you it has saved me many a time. However, this spring cobalt has been the color slinking around and I like what I’m seeing. This brings me to our first essential item. The little BLUE dress.
The task of styling a bright blue dress may scare some but fear not! In the heat of summer one could style this with a pair of red heels and delicate gold jewelry for more of a nautical look. For a hot date or night out with the girls you could throw on a pair of nude heels and a patterned clutch for some added drama. If you don’t wear it to death before winter comes you can wear it with a pair of tights and some black suede booties to keep warm. With a statement piece such as this you can really stand out in the crowd and look good doing it.
The next and (favorite) on my list is “the statement tunic” . Billowy: you so can enjoy a big lunch on your day off and still look fantastic. Not frumpy: so you never have to worry about being accused of hiding your figure; this little number can be worn almost anywhere. Pair it with a tailored skirt for a day at the office or a pair of white shorts for a summer BBQ with friends. What I love about this item is that even if fashion is not your forte you can style this however you want and do it with confidence!
Its spring! Colors Rejoice! Which is why I am a strong advocate of the colorful scarf. If you’re feeling lazy you can go monochromatic with all white or all nude and throw this sucker on and you are good to go! It can also work as an evening shawl or an added piece of flare to the handle of your bag.
Now that we’re seeing some warmer weather its time to take out the cognac colored heels! You can wear these with a floral dress to your best friend’s garden party or with your “statement” tunic and some white shorts. If you have a busy schedule these shoes can be paired with your entire spring/summer wardrobe without a second thought and the good news is they are neutral color so you can wear them next summer too! (And the maybe splurge on that Lego bag…we’ll see)
Let us not forget the final piece of the puzzle: a purse! During the spring and summer whether you are festival hopping or running errands you want to pack light! Phone, money, lip-gloss…you know, the important stuff. The perfect little cross body bag is an essential. The one that tortures me in the shop day in and day out is the Chanel mini quilted flap bag in navy. It goes with almost anything and its just so darn cute! It’s made of fine leather so it only gets better with age (like us right?) This baby will last you a lifetime!
